MIXED MEDIA MONDAYS

Mini Creators & Caregivers (Ages 0–5):
Introduces little hands to the joy of art-making through safe, sensory-rich projects that blend colors, textures, and shapes in a playful, exploratory environment.

Kids After School Program (Ages 6–8):
Sparks young imaginations with hands-on projects that combine painting, collage, printmaking, and more, building creativity, confidence, and foundational art skills.

Kids After School Program (Ages 9–12):
Challenges emerging artists to experiment with advanced techniques and layered media, encouraging personal expression, design thinking, and creative risk-taking.

Week 1 – Texture Collage / Layered Abstracts
This week is all about touch! Kids will explore different textures: soft fabric, bumpy bubble wrap, and smooth paper, and learn how to layer them into colorful collages or abstract paintings. They’ll discover how different materials feel, look, and work together while building fine motor skills and creative confidence.

Week 2 – Painted Paper Mosaics / Collage & Paint
Kids will first create their own painted papers, then tear or cut them into shapes to arrange into mosaics or collage scenes. This project encourages planning, color mixing, and storytelling as children decide how to piece their designs together.

Week 3 – Nature Prints / Nature & Printmaking
We’ll bring nature into the art room! Using leaves, flowers, and other safe natural items, kids will create colorful prints and patterns. Older groups will take it a step further by turning these prints into imaginative designs: turning a leaf into a butterfly or a fish, while learning about pattern and repetition.

Week 4 – Layered Story Art / Mixed Media Portraits
In our final week, kids will combine multiple art forms: painting, drawing, and collage, to tell a story or express something about themselves. Younger artists might make colorful scenes, while older students will create layered self-portraits that reflect their personality, interests, and style.

TACTILE TUESDAYS

Mini Creators & Caregivers Ages (0–5):
Introduces our youngest creators to the world of textures through safe, hands-on projects that encourage sensory exploration, fine motor skills, and joyful discovery.

Kids After School Program (Ages 6–8):
Invites young artists to explore clay, fiber arts, and textured surfaces, building creativity, coordination, and confidence through engaging, touch-focused activities.

Kids After School Program (Ages 9–12):
Challenges older students to experiment with sculptural techniques, fiber weaving, embossing, and assemblage, developing their technical skills, patience, and artistic voice.

Week 1 – Clay Play / Clay Characters / Sculptural Selfies
This week is all about squishing, rolling, and shaping! Kids will work with soft clay or dough to create forms, add textures with tools, and bring their ideas to life in 3D. Younger children will explore the joy of pressing and stamping patterns, while older students will sculpt animals, characters, or self-portraits with more detail and expression.

Week 2 – Contact Paper Collage / Yarn & Weave / Advanced Weaving
From sticky collages to woven wall hangings, this week focuses on the feel and flow of fiber art. The youngest artists will press soft and bumpy materials onto contact paper, while older students will learn weaving techniques using yarn, fabric strips, and beads to create textured tapestries they can take home.

Week 3 – Bubble Wrap Printing / Impression Prints / Emboss & Enhance
Kids will discover the fun of pressing and printing! Younger groups will stamp with bubble wrap and other textured surfaces, mid-age students will press objects into clay or foam to make unique tiles, and older students will emboss foil to create raised designs enhanced with color washes for a high-contrast finish.

Week 4 – Nature Texture Hunt / 3D Mixed Media / Assemblage Sculpture
This week celebrates the textures around us! The youngest artists will collect natural items to glue into collages, mid-age groups will create raised mixed-media creatures, and older students will assemble found objects into dynamic sculptures inspired by famous assemblage artists.

WATERCOLOR
WEDNESDAYS

Mini Creators & Caregivers Ages (0–5):
Introduces little hands to the magic of flowing color through safe, sensory-rich projects that inspire wonder and early creative confidence.

Kids After School Program (Ages 6–8):
Encourages young artists to explore washes, textures, and layering techniques, building fine motor skills, artistic planning, and expressive freedom.

Kids After School Program (Ages 9–12):
Challenges older students to master advanced techniques like masking, controlled washes, and mixed-media integration, fostering refined skill, style, and personal storytelling.

Week 1 – Magic Watercolors / Wet-on-Wet Wonder / Controlled Chaos
We start with the magic of water! Kids will see how colors swirl and mix when water hits the page. Younger artists will experiment freely, students will try wet-on-wet blends for soft effects, and older students will combine wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry techniques for more complex results.

Week 2 – Salt & Sprinkle / Salt, Splatter, Scratch / Masking Magic
This week is all about creating texture in watercolor. Little ones will sprinkle salt to watch starburst patterns form, students will combine salt with splatter and scratch techniques, and older students will use masking fluid or tape to protect white areas and build layered designs.

Week 3 – Color Wash Collage / Layer & Lift / Abstract Watercolor + Ink
We’ll use watercolor as a foundation for mixed-media art. The youngest artists will paint papers to cut into collage shapes, groups will layer washes and lift color for highlights, and older students will create abstract watercolor bases enhanced with bold ink line work.

Week 4 – Watercolor & Crayon Resist / Watercolor Landscapes / Watercolor Story Scenes
This week focuses on telling a story through watercolor. Younger artists will reveal hidden crayon drawings under their paint, groups will create layered landscapes with depth, and older students will paint detailed scenes—real or imagined—that share a visual narrative.

TEXTURE THURSDAYS

Mini Creators & Caregivers Ages (0–5):
Invites our youngest creators to explore soft, rough, bumpy, and smooth materials through playful, hands-on projects that spark sensory awareness and creative curiosity.

Kids After School Program (Ages 6–8):
Inspires young artists to experiment with layered materials, raised surfaces, and creative mark-making, developing tactile awareness, composition skills, and artistic confidence.

Kids After School Program (Ages 9–12):
Challenges older students to explore advanced surface design through collage, relief sculpture, printmaking, and acrylic texture techniques, encouraging innovation and craftsmanship.

Week 1 – Touch & Tell Collage / Texture Sampler Boards / Texture Mapping
This week invites kids to explore how many textures they can create or collect. Younger groups will make collages from soft, rough, and bumpy materials, students will build sampler boards with multiple surfaces, and older students will fill divided drawings with a variety of drawn, collaged, or painted textures.

Week 2 – Rubbing Rainbow / Paint & Paste / Acrylic Texture Techniques
We’ll bring hidden textures to life! Younger artists will uncover patterns with crayon rubbings, groups will mix texture paste into painted artwork, and older students will experiment with gels, pastes, and tools to add sculptural depth to their acrylic paintings.

Week 3 – Puffy Paint Pictures / Foil Relief Art / Collagraph Printing
This week is about raised surfaces and patterns you can feel. Little ones will paint with puffy, three-dimensional paint, students will emboss and antique foil for dramatic reliefs, and older groups will create collagraph plates from textured materials, then print them onto paper.

Week 4 – Nature Texture Hunt / Mixed Media Texture Creatures / Relief Sculptures
Our final week celebrates texture in the natural and built world. Younger artists will collect items to glue into tactile collages, students will make imaginative creatures from a mix of textured materials, and older groups will design low-relief wall sculptures with rich surface detail.
